Here’s the honest version of our origin story.

It started with a shopping cart and a very opinionated kid

A few years back, we were out shopping with our daughter before her birthday. She was rattling off everything she wanted — item after item, half-remembered, half-inspired by whatever caught her eye on the fly. So we did what any parent with a smartphone does: snapped a photo of every single thing.

Which felt smart for about a week. Then birthday planning time came around, and those photos were nowhere to be found — buried somewhere in a camera roll with three thousand other pictures, sandwiched between vacation shots and screenshots of receipts, completely un-findable. Great idea, terrible system.

That was the spark. Not just “take a photo,” but take a photo and actually be able to find it again — organized, labeled, shareable. PicLister was born as an idea to make lists — real ones, visual ones, shareable ones — for the things and places and moments that matter to the people in your life.

The idea was ready. The world wasn’t (yet)

Here’s the thing: this concept isn’t new. We first sketched it out back around 2014. But back then, turning an idea into a real app meant one of three things — you were a developer, you were rich, or you had a line to venture capital. We were none of those. So the idea sat. It got dusted off, shelved, revisited, reshelved. Add a pandemic and a decade of life happening, and here we are.

Enter 2026, enter Claude Code

Fast forward to today, and the landscape has completely flipped. With Claude Code (yes — shameless plug, and we’re not even a little sorry), we were finally able to build PicLister the way we always imagined it — and honestly, with way more horsepower than we originally dreamed of. No dev team, no funding round, no gatekeepers. Just an idea whose time (finally) came.

So, what is FOTOLister?

FotoLister v1.0 is a local app that lives right on your phone. Build lists of items, events, places, and anything else you want to track — then share them with the people who matter most. Get organized, shop smarter, and stay connected.

FotoLister v2.0 (already cooking) takes it to the web — user accounts, sharing between PicLister users, and a bunch of features we’re genuinely excited about.
